چکیده

We report on rst astronomical results with a cross-dispersed optical echelle spectrograph fed by a near single-mode ber. We also present on a novel design of a new adaptive optics (AO) optimized ber-fed cross-dispersed echelle spectrograph. The spectrograph is designed to match with AO corrected images in the optical bands provided by such as the Mt. Wilson 100 inch, Star re Optical Range 3.5 m AO telescopes. Ultimately, it will be installed at the 6.5 m MMT, when this has high resolution AO correcting the optical spectrum. The spectrograph, fed by a 10 micron fused silica ber, is unique in that the entire spectrum from 0.4 micron to 1.0 micron will be almost completely covered at resolution 200,000 in one exposure. The detector is a 2kx4k AR coated back illuminated CCD with 15 micron pixel size. The close order spacing allowed by the sharp AO image makes the full cover possible. A 250x125 mm Milton Roy R2 echelle grating with 23.2 grooves mm 1 and a blaze angle of 63.5 deg provides main dispersion. A double pass BK7 prism with 21 deg wedge angle provides cross dispersion, covering the spectrum from order 193 to 77. The spectrograph is used in the quasi-Littrow con guration with an o -axis Maksutov collimator/camera. The ber feeds the AO corrected beams from the telescope Cassegrain focus to the spectrograph, which is set up on an optical bench. The spectrograph will be used mainly to study line pro les of solar type stars, to explore problems of indirect detection of planets and also study interstellar medium, circumstellar medium and metal abundance and isotopic ratios of extremely metal-poor stars.

Measuring the refractive-index profile of optical fibers by the cladding-mode near-field technique.

A new measurement system has been developed that simply determines the refractive-index profile of any optical fiber by analyzing the propagation of cladding modes. Measurement accuracy was verified by a comparison with the refractive near-field method, and a sufficient resolution level was achieved to produce the fine structural details in single-mode fibers.

Fabrication and Characterization of the Fiber Optical Taper for a Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor

For a fiber optical surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor a short part of its cladding should be removed to coat a thin layer of a metal. Usually this is problematic when an optical fiber with small core diameter is used. In this paper, a new method using µliter droplet of the HF acid for short fiber optical taper fabrication is reported. Using this method in a multi-mode optical fiber w...

Cavity-enhanced spectroscopy in optical fibers.

Cavity-enhanced methods have been extended to fiber optics by use of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as reflectors. High-finesse fiber cavities were fabricated from FBGs made in both germanium/boron-co-doped photosensitive fiber and hydrogen-loaded Corning SMF-28 fiber. Optical losses in these cavities were determined from the measured Fabry-Perot transmission spectra and cavity ring-down spectrosc...

Mid-infrared nonlinear absorption in As2S3 chalcogenide glass

We report mid-infrared (MIR) nonlinear absorption in As2S3 glasses which results from two-photon excitation of valence electron to the Urbach extension followed by strong linear absorption of excited states. The measured MIR nonlinear absorption can be 3 to 4 orders of magnitude stronger than the two-photon absorption in the near-infrared for similar laser intensities and does not result from c...
